Gear

The right gear is essential to a fun, safe, and successful trip. Too much gear, and you become a slave to your pack weight, too little gear, and you could be missing something you desperately need. The right gear changes from person to person and one's experiences in Tuckerman Ravine help shape what exactly they will bring. Below is a general list of what gear you may need. Use the list below as a general guide to necessary gear.
1. skis
2. boots
3. poles
4. pack (internal frame packs can be very helpful)
5. sunscreen
6. base-layer
7. outer-layer
8. wool socks
9. ski socks
10. hiking boots
11. gloves (winter and spring)
12. ski hat
13. ball cap
14. 2-way radio
15. goggles
16. sunglasses
17. helmet
18. map
19. first-aid kit
20. camera (still and/or video)
21. duct tape
22. snacks
23. water
24. lunch
25. your brain
Optional
1. yak tracks
2. ice axe
3. crampons
4. beer (optional for the bowl, required for the post Tucks tailgate)
Please note: the pictures in this section are from an overnight Mt. Washinton trip in which we brought too much gear. It was a lessoned learned; lugging these 70-90 pound sleds up the trail for 4 hours was extremely difficult. I would highly recommend not filling a sled with gear, but rather, stick to what can be fit in a pack.
